Studio Friday: Show off your stuff!
Studio Friday September 22nd
This week’s topic: TOOT YOUR OWN HORN… LOUD!
” Studio Friday, for me, is a network of Artist from all over the world. It’s a fabulous way to communicate with and learn from artists of all backgrounds. With this being said, I would love to see a showcase of what YOUR art is. Are you a scrapbooker? A clay artist? Are you a collage artist or a photographer? Do you paint or work in the fibre arts of Knitting, sewing or enbroidery? Are you a gardener a botanist or an eclectic artist of many trades? I’d love to see a piece that you have created that you are most proud of. SHOW off your STUFF!!” ~Gabi
Ohh… I’m one of them that belong to the group artist of many trades, I like to try almost everything, but I have some trades I feel that I handle better then others. My number one is woodworking, it’s the trade I’m like the most and has most skills in. I also think I knit well but I’m not so good in reading knitting patterns sometimes, but the knitting turns out really good. I also feel that I handle many other textile techniques really good too.
So, what am I then most proud of? I have some woodwork projects that I feel really satisfied with!
The first thing is the very first tavlett, a type of shelf, that I built last summer when I went a course on Sätergläntan. I’m proud of it because it was my first one and it turned out nice.
But I think I’m even more proud of the tavlett I made this summer to a friend that got married. It’s sweet and I like that it feels balanced in colour and form.

Sometimes I’m making collages, I haven’t made so many get, because I thinks it’s quite hard to get them as I want, but this summer I managed to make one I feel really proud of. I used a colour that I usually don’t like, pink, and added a lot of roses, I’m not a rose girl either, but for my eyes it turn out nice and I’m proud that my thoughts lead me to this result. This week’s subject made me think a lot. I thought something like this: Of course I don’t feel satisfied of exact every piece I make, but I actually for myself feels proud almost every time I have made something new. I think it’s good that I’m creative. I’m proud that I have come this far and I always strives for becoming more skilful. I don’t think it’s bragging to say that you are skilful and make nice things, contrary I think it’s a strength so bye, bye to jantelagen.
I also think that the good thing starts the second you decided to make the thing you works with, and that, the thought and the way to a finished product, is the good thing. So actually I feel even more proud of “all my ways” then my things! The finished things are just a really nice bonus!
(This is one of the moments I feel that my English is a hinder for my thoughts, I could have developed this thought better if I was writing in Swedish, but I want everyone to be able to read my blog too.)
Do you think of the way or just the finished things? What’s more important for you? And I hope that everyone is proud to be a creative person! I am!

cute wood work! lucky friend who got it..

I completely agree with what you are saying. Like M. Scott Peck said, it’s the journey, not the destination. The “way” is everything; the end product is a memento.

agreeing with you, molly and scott peck - its the journey; one of tiny little steps. Isnt there a software that will convert your posts to english with the touch of a button?

Such beautiful shelves you made there! I love all the detail work you put into them like the little hearts and the carvings and that cute crown is just sooo fabulous!
Oh and I love your thoughts on the way vs. destination. Why don’t we make a topic out of it??? It’ll be great!!

P.S.: I feel that way you do about swedish often with German. I’d put things very differently if I wrote in German, hehe

Your shelves are so beautiful! I agree with you, it’s not bragging, this is why I submitted this topic to Tine. I wanted to see what everyone is most proud of and what their strongest area is. I am having a great time, reading everyone’s blogs and seeing their creations!
Gluckliche Wochenenede!!

I have to say, I’m usually pretty satisfied with my end result. Maybe that’s because I don’t force myself and just let my inner creative girl play! A lot of times I’m amazed what the end result is and it cheers me up, but actually already the process of creating makes me happy, so I guess it’s like you said above, the end result is a nice bonus!
Your wood work is beautiful! Keep on going!
