Yesterday I suddenly became very tired on the decoration in my living room. So I had to figure something out to change some. I came to think about the small piece of fabric that was over since I cover the door. Maybe it could become a new cloth to one sideboard that I have? Measured some and it looked like it would be possible to get almost the whole tree on the cloth.

Then I just cut it out and hem the sides, very easy, but something new in only a few minutes. After that I rearrange some stuff, took some out from the closet and put some stuff away. It feels good to change some in the decoration because some of the stuff had been there a long time.

with stuff

At the same time when I still had the sewing machine out I decided to sew a little skirt to my niece Wilma. I found a smaller piece of cotton tricot with dots in my collections. So after talking to my sister that had to measure here waist measurement I started to sew. First I made the bigger part and a canal for the waistband. And after that the flounce… Also one quiet easy thing to make, at least I think so. Now I only have to give it to Wilma so she can use it some time before she becomes too big. The pictures maybe lies a bit; the skirt fits a seven month old baby… I think the skirt almost looks like a hat in the picture… haha.

Dotted skirt to Wilma -the baby!

Now I have to figure out how I will make a happy birthday card, because in one and a half hour I’m going to a friend and here party. She is turning 30 this week. Hurray!

At the moment I’m waiting with a great curiosity on the oven that burns this glass pieces into necklaces like the once I made in December last year. We had potluck supper at work yesterday and then created with glass. The technique is named fusing I think? Anyhow, it’s a great technique and everyone can make it if you have access to a ceramic oven. Which not many people have, but everyone can put nice glass pieces together is what I mean.

Tomorrow morning when I come too work we can open the oven and see how they turned out. Will comeback with more photos then.

I have this door in my hall, it’s covered from the back because behind that door is the third room in my apartment which I don’t use. My cousin has that room with an own entrance. I wish I had that room, it would be my studio… but she had the room before I moved in here, so I only have to stand it. But that wasn’t what I was going to write. Last year I bought a fabric at a flea market. The lady I bought it from hadn’t used it and bought it not long ago. I even think I had seen it in a store in town. Anyhow, I haggled a bit and then went home owning one more piece of fabric.

And now, this week I have finally used it to the thing I thought. I have covered that door. And it became rather good. But I have to adjust the wire when someone can help me because it became too hard to tense it all by myself. The fabric was much broader; I have cut of one row with black trees. After that I hem the sides and fixed some with the wire. The trees I cut of I can use to something else, like a pillow or something.

Ahh, I love trees! But that’s hardly a surprise for some one who has read my blog before…

I have made a bookend for Hanna, one H. I just cut it out in the saw and after that I shape it a bit. Cut some on the corners, had to use the plane some also. Painted it white just like Hanna wanted and I also used some wax to get some lustre. Now I hope she will like it, but I think so. But the picture isn’t that great, I know.

I have made an M for my own bookshelf too, but the paint is still drying, so no picture of that yet. But I can say that it’s green. Like peas.

What gives me hope? That is the topic off today’s Studio Friday.

And the answer is family and friends, life, literature, work and so on. There is not only one thing that gives hope. There is always a combination off many things that brings it into my life.

Some people give me more hope then others. For example, my grandmother and grandfather, whom I have written about many times before, give/gave me hope. Even if they are dead since many years. But they were strong and struggled along with there life. It gives me hope thinking about them. I have friends that are creative like me and we talk a lot about stuff we make, how to come further in our work and of course we talk a lot about life too.

Literature can give a lot of hope. Depending on what mood I’m in a book can save my day. To read are a great way to charge the battery and regain new power.

But most important for me is that I have a positive way of looking at life. I don’t know how I became this happy girl. Life gave it to me. But of course my really good childhood and that my parents gave me the solid ground I stand on when I grow up has a great meaning to. So even if everyone needs hope I think I always have it in me, it has never abandon me! I can’t imagine how it is not to be able to see the good in life.

And today, when I walked outside with my niece when she was sleeping I felt a lot off hope, walking in the sunshine, feeling the wind against my cheek. Thinking about that she has the whole life in front of her, so cool. And I have the pleasure to watch her and my nephew grove up!

I made some doodle today at a meeting at work… which wasn’t so fun. But these birds became really funny! Something to make some kind of embroideries of I think. It’s something with birds and me… Can’t say what, I normally don’t even like birds, I hate pigeons for example. I save this doodle for later when I hopefully have time to develop this idea!

Doodle... birds!

Now TV and Gilmore girls!

Thursday I help my sister to sew a new curtain to Linus, my nephew, room. Bamse, Lilleskutt and Skalman are on the fabric. Linus really loves Bamse. He uses to read my old book that still stands in the bookshelf at mom and dads place, Linus grandmother and grandfather. He can tell his own stories about them, because he is only 2½ year old so he can’t read. Last time we read it together he told me that he would like to have a space costume because Bamse travels to the moon. I don’t really know if I even would try to make him a space costume. Maybe it’s okay to only dream about it…

Linus found the curtain really nice! He told me, “Nä men titta, Bamse, jättesnygg!” (ohh look, Bamse, really nice!)

We also painted some with watercolours, always really fun!

Hanna and I order some striped cotton tricot and I got them in the mail yesterday! They are all really nice! And has a superb quality! I will sew some tops of the fabric. Don’t know when yet, not today that’s for sure. It’s this little company that makes them, E-slöjd.

stripes

Last time I sew some with the machine I made two tops. I sew the striped one because I once bought a lot of tricot with those broad stripes. So now I have two tops of that fabric, which doesn’t do anything. It’s just good to have clothes. The other fabric with skulls I bought because I found it cool. It’s only one thing that is a bit boring with making this kind of stuff and that is that I don’t have an overlock machine. But you can’t have it all…

two tops I have made

Now I’m off to my sister to make some textile printing to my nephew’s room.

I’m working on one pillow with embroideries at the moment, which I have some more work on before I can finish it. But before I started to sew I decided to try some before I started on the real one. Therefore I made this bird, which I now have made three more of on the pillow. I find them really nice and funny. I got inspired by this really nice book, Yllebroderier, a book to die for! I have to buy it soon. Because I think I have borrowed it like 10 times or something at the library.

birdie

What I will do with this bird I haven’t decided yet. Something! Because I feel happy just by looking at it! Maybe I just frame it and hang it on the wall.

Today it has been a really great weather here in Umeå, sunny and a nice temperature. So I went for a walk along the river which was really nice. So I hope this weather will last because I have sports holiday this week that comes.

Then I decided to wash my car… and became really angry at an old man in a bmw that tried to jostle in the line to the carwash. I became angry, but retained calm and just asked him to move his car so I could wash my car instead since it was my turn. That made him angry I can say. Right now I’m just so satisfied that I told him to move his damned car…

Ah, I have a holiday!

Two weeks ago I wanted to knit, but I didn’t need anything myself. But I had read that Anne wished that she had a pair of wrist warmers therefore I decided to make a pair and send to here.

I had some wool yarn that I could use and then I just made a test on my own wrist and hoped that it would fit Anne’s wrist to. I made it 42 stitches broad and thirty something stitches high. After that I sewed it together, but it felt too simple so I crocheted a small and easy lace round the edges. No more, no less. A perfect little project to make and my craving for knitting was satisfied.

I’m satisfied with the result, and Anne was also happy about receiving them! I actually thought before posting them that she would like them, because she appreciate handicraft of all sorts. Anne makes really good ceramic things and has a really personal drawing style! And of course, she takes great pictures too!

I had fun making my first pair of wrist warmers!
