Yesterday some CDs arrived in the mail because I made an order Sunday. One of my favourite artists has released a new record. These friends of mine by Rosie Thomas, I have not even listen to the whole CD yet, I have it in the player now and listen as I write this.

One thing strikes me when I see the CD and that is that a cover can be like an art piece itself. Many records have some kind of photo or photo collage on the cover, which also are a kind of art. But some of the records I have by Rosie Thomas are painted or sketched things. I really like the paper plan and the dress. The one that looks like an oil painting I don’t like that much, it’s something with the face and the green colour that I don’t really appreciate as much as the others. The pink photo collage is just great. And the new CD that made me start think I also finds really nice.

I have been to quiet many concerts, smaller once and bigger once, I once saw Robbie Williams at Stadion in Stockholm it was like 27000 people or something. But I think that one of the greatest concerts I have been to was the one with Rosie Thomas. She and Damien Jurado played at a really small place here in town. I guess that it was about 200 persons there. It’s a tiny place. When I saw the wall chart that Rosie was coming to town I thought that I saw a vision, because I had just found here music and loved it from the start. So it became unreal that she was coming to Sweden, she’s from the US, and to my hometown which isn’t the biggest town.

Its four years or something like that since I went on that concert now. But I still think of it when I listen to the records. How happy I became when I saw the wall chart and that Rosie talked a lot about a bathtub on here hotel room and Damien Jurado talked about the Swedish post office. Yes, the Swedish post office is big joke; I don’t really know what has happened to it. But he said something fun, what I have forgotten now.

Anyhow, I think I have lost my thought a bit, covers and art was what I started to think of, and it ended up in a concert in September 2003… I could only have written this: I love Rosie Thomas music, I love the covers on here CDs, I love going to concerts. And all off that is art.

I love art!

The only creative thing I have made this past Christmas weekend was to collect some branches and start carving some new garden decorations. Went for a walk and found this already cut down branches lying in the side of the road. So I just pick them up and carried the home. I felt like a dog or something, finding the perfect stick to take home. But I didn’t chew on them.

grenar to me carved

I prepared a lot of crowns, hearts and stars for some weeks ago. Thought it could be good to find if I felt for carving some. I think I finished 10 of them or something that day. I sat in mom and dad’s garage, listened to some new records that I received in Christmas present. Two Swedish artist, Laleh and here record Prinsessor, and Moneybrother and his record Pengabrorsan. What’s greater then new lovely music? It was some nice hours, I could think of everything else. That kind of carving I probably would manage in my sleep.

I thought some about Sätergläntan, that I and mom probably will attend a course in July. We have registered us to two different courses. And I already longing for it. But, I have to wait a half year or so to see if I will be accepted. I really hope for it! Also thought some what my goals for 2007 will be. Maybe I can put a list together later, when I have figured it all out, because for the moment I don’t have any idea.

Hanna has earlier today written about a really great show we went to yesterday, Kalle & Laleh – vem har lurat barnen? (Who has deceived the children?) Laleh is a Swedish musician who is really talented and Kalle who I never had heard of earlier is Swedish master in poetry slam. They combined poetry and music in the show. And I can only agree with Hanna, I love them! It was so great and I’m still happy. They felt as a unit and not as two artists doing individual things on the same stage, which could be a risk in a show like theirs.

There where many contemplative things they touched, but there were always love and remembrances of childhood, a childhood that could have been my, yours or just anyone.

Oh, so great! And I took some pictures to.

If you live in Sweden and the show reaches your town, you most go and see them.

Play it again Sam” is one line from the movie Casablanca I think. And I am not sure if I even have seen the movie. But this text should not be about Casablanca it will be about music.

Music is something that I found important I really like to listen to music and to found new groups and artists. Concerts and festivals are really great too! Music can make me happy, calm and balanced. Unfortunately I’m not so musical talented but I wish that I could play guitar or piano. Maybe I can learn sometime?

My first memory containing something that has to do with music is when my little sister was new born and I wanted to sing for here at BB (maternity ward) but my parents deny me because I was singing to loud. Presumably she had woken up from her sleep if I not had been stopped. From that point I think I more or less has listen to music what I can remember.

When I was five I listen to Carola (a Swedish artist that has a long history I not will describe here), when I was 12 I listen to NKOTB (New kids on the block, a boy band.) Then I don’t really know what I listen to the years after that, but when I was 16 or so I started to listen to older music like The Beatles. So then I was stuck in the 60’ and 70’ music and still are, I also listens to a lot of singer/songwriter music like Rosie Thomas, Ryan Adams, Christan Kjellvander, Ed Harcourt, Nick Drake and many more. I listen to rock music and also a lot of Swedish music. And many of the Swedish bands/artists are from my hometown Umeå. Like The Perishers, David Sandström, Deportees and The Facer.

I’m going to try and list some great music (for me at least)

Newest record for me

Antony and the Johnsons - I am a bird now.

I heard it ones this summer when I went a course on Sätergläntan, than I forgot about it and for a month ago or so I remember it again. Since that I think I have listen to it at least every second day. I love it!

Some of my favorite records

Weeping Willows – Broken promise land
Lars Winnerbäck – almost everything but to pick one record. Söndermarken
Ryan Adams – Cold roses
Isolation years – Cover the distance

Some immortal tunes I really like

David Bowie – Life on mars
Sammy Davis Jr – Mr Bojangles
Gary Jules – Mad world
Queen - Bohemian Rapsody

My first cd

Michael Jackson – Dangerous

Christmas present in 1992, I got my first stereo with CD player that year. Now I haven’t listen to it for years and years. But I remember the video to Black and white, with the faces that changed.

My first lp

My first LP, and I have to point out that I don’t own more then three I think, was a record for children with songs. I think that the lp can be found on my parents attic. Wooffisarna och lill-babs.

Lill-babs is an artist from Sweden how is loved by the people (read: the older ones) and Wooffisarna was two bears or something like that. From what I found on internet the lp was recorded the same years as I am born, 1980.

Laleh on Droskan

Som tex covern på The Police Walking on the moon otroligt bra!

Yesterday I went to a concert with Laleh, a new swedish girl that sings in swedish, english and persian. She radiates hope and joy and she is really great on improvise. Her last song was a improvisation she did, Droskan in love. Droskan is the name of the local she played in. Except from her own songs she did a really great cover on the Police Walking on the moon.

Rosie Thomas - If songs could be held (14/9)
Ryan Adams - Jacksonville city nights (28/9)
Christian Kjellvander - Faya (19/10)

Lite jobbigt dock att det är så olika släppdatum. Blir svårt att beställa dem om jag ska komma undan med ett porto. Så det blir väl att handla dem på stan. Även om skivaffärerna här är dyra och så himla tråkiga.
